Manager, Regional Internal Audit Team, Toronto and Area

Exempt Level 7A

Salary Range: $106,558 - $125,711

 

Under the direction of the Senior Manager, Regional Internal Audit, the Manager, Regional Internal Audit Team, Toronto and Area will execute and oversee risk based internal audits and report the findings for the six school boards within the Toronto and Area Region.

 

Major Responsibilities:

 

  • Lead, plan and execute risk based internal audits as well as analyze, review, document and evaluate the internal controls of the school boards within the Toronto and Area Region.
  • Perform risk assessments, prepare audit working papers to document findings and conclusions and prepare draft audit reports.
  • Develop recommendations to address internal control weaknesses and improve the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the school boards’ financial, operational and compliance activities as well as communicate audit findings to board management.
  • Review work papers and draft deliverables, providing constructive feedback to regional internal audit staff.
  • Provide coaching, training and mentoring activities to audit staff as well as develop and improve the delivery of internal audit services in the school board environment. 
  • Respond to queries from school boards within Toronto and Area Region as well as analyze, resolve and report on complex issues as they arise.
  • Participate in special audit projects as requested by the audit committees within Toronto and Area Region including updating and maintaining budgets associated with audit projects.
  • Attend Audit Committee meetings to discuss internal audit findings as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications and Experience:

 

  • Relevant university degree and a professional accounting designation (CPA) and/or internal audit designation (CIA)
  • 4 to 5 year years of relevant work experience
  • Knowledge of internal auditing standards, accounting principles, practices and audit methodologies
  • Knowledge of CAATS, ACL and experience in IT audits would be an asset
  • Experience in financial and operational audits

  • Ability to provide leadership and demonstrate change management skills
  • Excellent research skills, problem solving and analytical skills
  • Effective time management and organizational skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Solid knowledge of Microsoft Office and audit software (e.g. MK Insight)
  • Strong interpersonal skills to maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Results oriented individual with the ability to prioritize and multi-task
  • Knowledge of the school board sector would be an asset
